Understanding Screen Resolution
Screen resolution refers to the number of pixels displayed on your screen. Higher resolutions mean sharper images and more screen real estate. Knowing your resolution helps designers and developers build responsive websites.
Key Display Metrics
- Screen Resolution — total pixel dimensions of your physical display
- Browser Window — the area available for web content rendering
- Device Pixel Ratio (DPR) — ratio of physical pixels to CSS pixels (Retina = 2x or 3x)
- Color Depth — number of bits used per pixel to represent colour
Common Screen Resolutions
- 1920 × 1080 (Full HD) — most popular desktop resolution
- 2560 × 1440 (QHD) — common on larger monitors
- 3840 × 2160 (4K UHD) — high-end displays
- 390 × 844 — iPhone 14 / 15
